PET PORTRAITS

PET PORTRAITS

Booking a Pet Portrait with me couldn’t be easier! Take a look through my simple process below to see how.

Please note that your portraits will be created using the highest quality materials to ensure a professional finish. My preferred choice in pencils are Caran D’ache and Prismacolor on Bristol Smooth 250gsm Paper or more recently, Drafting Film. We can discuss these prior to booking to ensure the best option is used for your portrait as this can vary depending on colour, composition and other aspects.

Step 5

Here's an example of good reference photo

My top tips when choosing a reference photo:

  • Having a clear image to work from is definitely one of the most important factors for me to capture the entire essence of your pet.

Being able to see the direction of fur, details in eyes, nose and mouth are essential.

Photos that are taken in natural light usually work best as the colours are often more accurate too!

Of course, I completely understand that if your beloved fur baby has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge then the choice of photos can often be limited. If this is the case then I will do my absolute best to enhance slightly lower res images.

  • Animals (especially dogs) have very expressive eyes and mouths, they bring out their whole personality and I love to capture all of that within my portraits.

I would recommend a front facing or 3/4 profile.

If you’re taking a new photo of your pet and struggling to get them to hold still for more than 0.5 seconds, try holding a treat just above your camera and you’ll be guaranteed to get the look of love!

  • If you’re lucky enough to own more than one pet you’ll likely know it’s often hard to capture them perfectly together in one photo.

If you would like me to include them all in your portrait then please do feel free to send individual photos and I will put them together for you!

  • If you would like me to remove any of these items then please do just let me know.

Above is an example of a good reference photo.
